October 22, 2009 - Update on Erin

Four years ago today I sat in the waiting room of PCMC while Erin underwent a 13 hour surgery to have the brain tumor removed. That was a long day and it seems like a life time ago. So much has happened since then. I have had a lot of time to review the last four years and I have no regrets. We have lived and done so much with Erin.

How is Erin doing? She is such a fighter. The hospice nurse told me the other day that they never thought she would still be here. I laughed and said, "Well this is Erin we are dealing with. We should have expected as much." I am so glad for these days with her. We have had some touching talks. My love has grown A LOT! The last week has been most interesting. She has been her spunky self again. It has been so heartwarming for me to see that side of her again. Miss Debbie one of the adaptive PE teachers was here today and Erin said something spunky to her. I laughed and said, "Well there is that spunky Erin we know and love." The last few days have been good. But for the most part she just lays in her bed and sleeps. So I have been deeply grateful for these last few days.

Thanks to each of you for your love, prayers, friendship, meals and help. It is because of each of you that we are still able to even get out of bed and get dressed. Don't be fooled there are days when PJ's are worn all day long. We love you!!
Love,
Nancy
